The Aquarian Age (Time For A New Consciousness)

- John Onyido

A lot had been written in the past couple of years and especially in the preceding months regarding the Millennium computer compliance syndrome and the desperate moves by industry operatives and all those who rely on computer related services, to ensure that their computers were updated in good time for the much dreaded millennium bug.

This widespread response to a mundane issue (if you will pardon the expression) like the computer scare, bears some striking similarity to the much-mystified concept of the Age of Aquarius, both in terms of timing and content, that one is tempted to contribute an article for the benefit of the public intended, hopefully, to illuminate the veiled mystery that surrounds the so called Age of Aquarius- the Golden Age of Man’s enlightenment.

Elementary knowledge of Astrology tells us that the Zodiac is divided into 12 zones/houses, popularly referred to as the 12 signs of the Zodiac. These are: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
According to Astronomers, it takes about 26,000 years for our sun and its planets to revolve around a much larger central sun. On the other hand, it takes our solar system between 2100 to 2160 years, or thereabout, to pass through one of the houses indicated above. This last mentioned period represents what is known classically as an “Age” or “dispensation”.

Each Age or dispensation is characterized by certain attributes or peculiarities that distinguish it from the rest. Some such indicators include: the general attitude of the people living in that era, the thrust of their religious inclination, their secular beliefs, the level of available knowledge in terms of developments of Science and Technology and the level of spiritual awakening, amongst other factors. Only some decades back were Astrologers able to draw some correlation between the inception of dispensations or major epochs on the planet and the emergence of world Religions. Thus the growth of Religions is apparently connected with the passage of the vernal equinox through the various constellations of the Zodiac.

The general belief in some circles is that the dispensation that is just receding is the Piscean Age and that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ lived and worked on earth at the very beginning of this particular Age. The word Pisces (a water sign in Astrology) simply means “fish” and is widely acclaimed as the insignia of the Piscean Age. In the same fashion, Christianity that flourished as the Religion of this Age is recognized by the sign of the fish and its element, “water” that represents purification and cleansing.

Indeed, most of the occurrences recorded in the New Testament about Jesus Christ revolve round these twin attributes. Various biblical accounts of Jesus Christ and John the Baptist in one way or the other had to do with the sign of the Fish and the element of Water. Thus “ the last two thousand years, comprising the Piscean Age, has certainly been one of water and the many uses of that element have been emphasized, and the sea and lake and river navigation has been brought to a high degree of efficiency”.

As a result of what is known in Astronomy as “the precession of the Equinoxes” the transition from one Age to another is not necessarily sequential, but somewhat reversed. There also appears to be some disagreement among scholars as to the exact date of commencement of the Piscean Age to facilitate an easy determination of when the Piscean Age will come to an end and thus when the new Age will begin. This issue appears to be critical, as it would seem that the end of this millennium might not coincide exactly with the end of one Age and the beginning of another, although they may approximate somewhat.

The precise calculation of these dispensations also impacts on the much-dreaded question of whether and when the end of the world would take place. The end of a dispensation is usually marked by a number of strange and cataclysmic occurrences, as the transition is made from one Age to another, from one era to another. Examples of such unsettling events appear to be all around us that most people, especially our Religious brothers make it a point to remind us of the imminent end of the world and the urgency to mend our ways to reflect a life of righteousness. Interestingly, this attitude is not different from the attitude of those that lived over two thousand years ago- at the dawn of the Piscean Age.

With the benefit of hindsight we now know that the “ end of the world” figuratively refers to the end of a dispensation. As a result of the change in frequency and the spiritual vibration of the ensuing era, the planet is affected in multifarious forms, ranging from changes in weather and climatic conditions, seismic and geological shifts, circular and governmental transitions, scientific and technological developments as well as religious and or spiritual awakening.

A few of such catastrophic changes marking the demise of an era as re- counted in the Bible may include the symbolic fall of man, the great deluge and the fall of Jerusalem. Some such occurrences may have heralded the ebb of great civilizations like the lost city of Atlantis or the Continent of Lemuria. However, our beloved planet has always outlived these occurrences and our existence in this epoch is clear testimony to this fact. It should not be a surprise to any clear thinking person that the 31st of December, 1999 or the 1st of January, 2000, will probably turn out like any other days we are used to, without any heavenly visitations or Apocalyptic occurrences.

Today, man stands at the threshold of a new epoch, the Aquarian Age- the golden age of man. The Aquarian Age is primarily a spiritual Age of remarkable scientific inventions and discoveries, of brotherly love and the universality of life. It is also believed that the deeper meaning of Christ’s Teachings will become more apparent during this period, a period of the great outpouring of the Spirit to all Nations.

The Astrological sign of Aquarius is an air sign signified by the Water Bearer- a man carrying in his hand a pitcher of water indicative of the out-pouring of knowledge and wisdom. Indeed the book: “The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ” written by Levi, reproduces the signs of the beginning of the new Age as culled from the Akashic Records in the following fashion, “ And then the man who bears the pitcher will work forth across an arc of heaven; the sign and signet of the Son of Man will stand forth in the eastern sky. The wise will then lift up their heads and know that the redemption of the earth is near”.

Indicators of the new Age that is upon us are quite obvious and include recent breakthroughs in genetic engineering, the progeny of man, computer technology and telecommunications, Space technology and developments in Medicine and Surgery, in world Politics and Government. In respect of the last mentioned matter, recent trends in globalization and world peace are particularly significant as these trends- perhaps more than any other factor- symbolize the energy of the new Age, of the brotherhood of Man and the fatherhood of God.

The Aquarian Age will be a period of the loving consciousness being made more manifest than ever before in all facets of our lives and in our relationships and so the Teacher of the new Age is one who is Living Love.

The preceding Age had been characterized to a large extent by a lot of individualism and near-sightedness, interspersed with religious bigotry, self- conceit and opportunism, due largely to lack of knowledge. A lot of atrocities have been perpetrated in the name of God and in the bid to attain salvation, coupled with so much rancor and strife between different Religious Sects and denominations and their various adherents on the “true and only route to God”. Some lay claim absolutely to the only one true God as though they have some form of copyright on God, while all none adherents are automatically excluded from God’s kingdom.

More than ever before the message as always has been that God and His Christ are available to all who seek Him in Truth and Righteousness, whether big or small, tall or short, black or white, rich or poor, famous or not, Jew or gentile, Christian (born again or not) or Muslim and any number of other world Religions and even the traditionalists and the so called Atheists. Yet others continue to lord it over others in forms of slavery or servitude and subjugation. This attitude is manifested within the family circle, in paid employment and in governance. Greed and control or manipulation still holds sway as we all struggle to gain some edge over others. Some even withhold affection and love from their fellow men because they feel, on religious or secular grounds, that others are not good enough.

God’s love that is the CHRIST, the Savior of us all, is no respecter of persons and does not discriminate between men. As a universal consciousness, it transcends all ethnic and cultural barriers and boundaries and is the very source of life itself. It is the custodian of the various dispensations through the designated Cherubic and Seraphic powers. “ Thus Christ made manifest Love’s power to save; but men forgot so soon, and so Christ must manifest again, and then again. And ever since man took his place in form of flesh the Christ has been manifest in flesh at first of every age.”

As we continue to hold onto the illusions and the negative attitudes of the past, we unwittingly push back the full dawn of the new Age through our procrastination and inordinate delays. In extreme cases of lethargy however, drastic measures may be embarked upon by nature of an individual, national or international magnitude in order to get rid of the last vestiges of the receding Age and all those who refuse to move into the vibration of the new Order. Some people have already entered into this Golden Age that is upon us, as by their attitude to life and in the manner in which they control their inner environment, they have attained a very high altitude in their spiritual life.

As we come to the end of this millennium and as we look forward to the dawn of a new era, it is prudent and in our interest to make an informed decision which results in a marked shift from our old, familiar ways. The responsibility of making ourselves worthy and prepared for the demands of our time as always remains an individual one. It involves stepping-up higher than before on the evolutionary scale; it involves a positive change for the better. Perhaps much more important than the exact date on which the Aquarian Age will commence is that we start cultivating and propagating the qualities of this new era at every opportunity that they become like second nature to us, and by so doing we precipitate this new Age spontaneously.

The pertinent question that was posed to users of computer technology as to millennium compliance and compatibility of their private computers is also an appropriate question for all of us to answer on a more individual and involved sense. Are we really prepared for the vicissitudes of the new Age? Are we really Y2K? - I sincerely hope so!!!
