Get A life!

If work dominates your life, it may be time to do a little soul-searching and find the only thing that will make you happy –– your God–given assignment.
Every profession has "seasons of intensity" – sales people with monthly quotas, attorneys preparing for a big case, accountants with tax deadlines. During these seasons of intensity, we tend to adapt to the pressure of the tasks and exceed expectations. No problem, at least not yet.
Hard work is to be commended, but consistent overwork is a liability. Seasons of intensity and occasional sacrifices are justifiable in the short-term. However, a work culture that demands extensive time away from those you love and the things you love to do can be spiritually, physically and emotionally toxic.
If you are currently working under a model of results that believes the only path to success is through working sixty to seventy hours a week and broken promises to yourself and your family, you need to recognize the other paths to success. These paths are wide enough to enjoy family, friends and fun. The key is to recognize which path to take.
How do you know you are working on the RIGHT path to your personal assignment? Here are five elements to find a simpler path of personal success:
1. You are equipped for the journey – If God calls you to complete a task, perform a job and fulfill a vision, He always equips you with the ability, the anointing and finances to get it done. God gave you unique equipment (gifts) for a particular purpose. Perhaps your gift is writing, speaking or problem solving. Search for the elements in your life that come easy to you. Write down all of your strengths then put them into action by sharing them with others.
2. The people that matter the most are happy – Many years ago, a wise man advised me to never become a public success and private failure. Fulfilling your assignment should never occur at the expense of your family or personal friends. Keep your priorities in check. Your priorities should be God, spouse, self, children and work. In that order. Always give your family the best you have, not leftovers.
3. You are making a difference – Is your life's work making a difference in the life of others or are you simply making a dent? You can tell by the response of your customers, your co-workers or those that you serve. If you are not making a difference in your community, perhaps you should begin to make adjustments in your daily plan. You make a difference in the life of other people simply by adding value to them. You should make it a habit to seek to add value to every person you come into contact with. You add value to people by helping them. The more people you help, the most successful you will become.
4. You are fulfilled – Your heart will never lie to you. Does what you do everyday bring you gratification or stress? Do you have peace or is there restlessness in your heart? Find where your heart wants you go and make the adjustment to line you life up with it. How do you get there? Write down daily goals and then do one thing everyday toward that goal. You will be fulfilling what is in you heart before you know it.
5. You seek your life's purpose, not money – The happiest and most successful people in the world are people who have an opportunity to do what is in their heart. God planted His purpose and your assignment in your heart. The unhappiest people are those whose priority is make money first. Following your heart may not be the quickest way to succeed, but it is the surest!
The greatest discovery that I have made is that the only thing that matters is not how much money, fame or success that I achieve, but what am I accomplishing while I am on this earth. You will only be remembered for the things you did, not what you intended to do.
The new beginning of your life starts with you setting your mind to fulfill your God–given assignment. New relationships will be developed when you seek your purpose. Use these five elements to begin a new life today. A wider path to success is out there, one that is wide enough for your assignment, family, friends and fun.
