My
Miraculous Journey
-
Kimberly Mcintosh
As I was going to see my family physician this morning, which was about an hour away, I nearly wrecked my car. Because I have a warped rim on my right rear tire, the first thought that occurred to me was that the tire was probably poorly inflated, causing my car to lose traction on the asphalt surface. The low pressure in my tire had caused me to skid into the lane of an oncoming vehicle, as I braked to slow down around the nearing curve, but I managed to regain control before I approached the automobile, and got it safely back onto my side of the road. I took the car to the nearest filling station and inflated the tire with air.
If it had not been for this incident I would have taken a series of back roads to the doctor's office, but since I was on the highway, I proceeded to take that route toward my intended destination. As I neared the interstate, I found myself in the left lane, as I always take another back road from there. The route that I normally take passes by a lake and a dam in our community. It is a beautiful scenic drive, and it saves one from all of the hassle of the traffic on the thoroughfare, yet something kept telling me to take the interstate. I did not understand, but I stayed at the red light, holding up traffic until I could in the right lane where I needed to be, in order to get to the entrance to the interstate.
I continued on my journey to see the doctor. I made it there safely and had my appointment as planned. As I departed the office and went down the road a few miles, I approached the road where I regularly turn to take the back roads home. Again, I heard a voice telling me to pass up that road and continue down the main highway to the interstate. Again I did not understand, but I heeded the warning. I found the entrance to the interstate and advanced toward my hometown.
When I got about a mile from the correct exit to leave the interstate, I looked down and noticed that my car had no oil pressure. I continued on toward the exit, left the interstate, and stopped at the closest store. I went in the store and bought four quarts of oil to put into the car. We have had a problem with the car having a leaky valve cover gasket and have had to add oil frequently for years. I just assumed that was the problem without checking the oil first. After I added the oil, I returned to the car and gave it a crank. I found the car to be yet without oil pressure. I was still about thirty minutes from my home. I was hoping that I could make it there safely. Again, I was impelled to take the main highway home after having a feeling not to take the back roads.
I went down the highway about two or three miles until I sighted the local farmers co-op, which has a car care center. It was as if something forced me to pull over there and get advice from the mechanics. I pulled up beside of the garage and humbly approached the mechanics. I asked if someone could look at my car. The helpful mechanic advised me that, in his opinion, the oil pump was about to go out on the car, and offered me a ride home. I made it home safely thanks to the kindness of that gentleman.
I knew that all of the feelings, sensations, and coincidences that I had experienced today had a purpose, but I had not been able to decipher their meanings. After the oil pump went bad, I then understood. God had caused the tire to deflate on my car, and had guided me through my journey. He had led me through the major roads. If it had not been for his guidance, I feel that I would have been stranded on the back roads, out in the country. He directed me to the places that I needed to be, which allowed me to acquire the aid that I needed.
