Puzzles and Plans
- Marsha Jordan
My grandson, Cobi, has a huge monster puzzle that's almost as big as he is. He's not the best at putting it together, so I have to help him. When he decides that a certain piece fits into a specific spot, he's not willing to change his mind no matter what you say or how difficult it is to squeeze that piece in. He pushes and pounds on it saying "it WILL fit!"
Sometimes we act that way as adults. When things don't seem to "fit" in our lives, we may be determined to MAKE them fit, no matter what. There have been times when I've suggested to people that they pray and ask for God's guidance before going ahead with a plan they have only to have them reply, "I'm going to do it no matter what God wants." That scares me.
Plans that go against God's will don't prosper. "Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain." (Psalm 127:1)
Several years ago, my husband and I fell in love with a gorgeous old Victorian house. We wanted to buy that house more than we've ever wanted anything, but it was not within our price range. We came up with a plan to enable us to buy it. We would get second jobs and take in renters. We could sell everything else we owned and get by with just one car. We had it all figured out; but the house sold to someone else before we got our offer in. We were disappointed at the time, but we later realized that it was for the best. We would have been in deep debt forever because we really did not earn enough to afford such a house. We would have been sorry if we had gotten what we so desperately wanted.
We were happy later because we could see that God had worked out HIS will instead of letting us have our own way! We discovered the need to always seek God's guidance before trying to make our own plans fit into life.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Marsha Jordan, creator of the HUGS and HOPE Club, is a disabled grandma who cares about kids and does whatever she can to help them.
In a new book, author Thomas Baldrick calls Jordan a champion and compares her to Michael Jordan, saying: "She has done for the Internet what Michael Jordan has done for the game of basketball -- raising it to a higher level."
The book "A Million & One Ways to Celebrate a Child" is a powerful collection of real-life stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things for children. Jordan's story, entitled "Love, Happiness, and Sticky Peanut Butter" is one of the many true sources of inspiration in the book. Part of the proceeds from book sales will benefit the HUGS and HOPE Club for Sick Children.
